Healthy Schools Recognition Program

The Ministry of Education has developed the Healthy Schools Program to promote and celebrate healthy behaviours and practices in Ontario's publicly funded schools. Healthy schools can have a positive impact on student health and learning.

Daily Physical Activity

Twenty minutes of daily physical activity are critical to making publicly funded schools healthier places to learn and improve student achievement. This step in the government's Healthy Schools Plan will ensure that elementary students have a minimum of 20 minutes of sustained moderate to vigorous physical activity each school day.

Anaphylaxis: Sabrina's Law

Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that can be life threatening; it requires avoidance strategies and immediate response in the event of an emergency. An Act to Protect Anaphylactic Pupils: Sabrina's Law came into force on January 1, 2006, and is the first legislation of its kind anywhere in the world. This law ensures all school boards have policies or procedures in place to address anaphylaxis in schools, which includes providing instruction to staff and guidance on the administration of medication.
